How To Beat Writer's Block In Eleven Minutes - 5 1 5 Writer's Technique, came about because of wanting and needing several things: Writers block. How to cure writers block. How to write. A basic writing technique. Writing techniques. How to write a first line. An opening sentence. How to write better. How to write well. Then, story writing techniques.

Learning is a progression process. Getting better takes practice. But nothing works. If you don't apply it with practice.

"I write one page of masterpiece to ninety one pages of shit. I try to put the shit in the wastebasket." Ernest Hemingway

Writers technique in three parts.

  • 5 Minute Observation
  • 1 Minute Visualizing
  • 5 Minute Writing
Object: a material thing that can be seen and touched.

Item: an individual article or unit, especially one that is part of a list, collection, or set.

How to write

Here's how It works

5 Minute Observation

First, decide on what to pick, what to write about.
Pick an object or item you are interested in. You are then more likely to enjoy it and because you 'want to'.

It can be anything, inside the house or outside.
Keep the object or item specific. Something you can fully take in within 5 minutes.

When observing the item or object, describe it out loud. Talk about it, ask it questions. This is important.

For three reasons. One, you are engaging with it. Therefore two, you will concentrate on it more. And three, talking out loud about it will help you to remember it.

When you are looking and talking, this helps to eliminate or minimize distractions.

As you are inspecting it, describe it out loud as though you are describing it to someone on the phone.

Look for what size, thickness, shape, color it is. What it is made of. What it does, or is used for, etc. It may be a trash can in a park. So, it has a purpose.

As you do this more and as your confidence builds, you will be able to expand your skills and increase your daily writing tips.

1 Minute Visualizing

For this step, be prepared before starting. You may want to be seated because your eyes will be closed.

As with meditating, closing your eyes shuts out distractions to still the mind.

A bench or your car seat may be close by. You can then go onto the third step also.

So, if you are sitting or standing, close your eyes. Think of the object you have just finished observing for five minutes.

Build a mental picture of it in your mind. Or, a mind movie. Recall as much detail about it as you can.

Maybe this is not a strong point for you. Don't be concerned. It's part and parcel of getting better with anything. You just need practice.

Bring into this, mental image or mind movie, as many senses as you can, sight, sound, touch, smell, maybe even taste.

For this one minute, just concentrate on the object.

5 Minute Writing

The purpose of choosing something is that it is a definite topic. Visible and tangible. So that you don't have to try to think of something to write about.

Using a timer creates a sense of purpose. As well as a start and finish line.

You are describing something you have seen in real life, and in your mind and, maybe touched and tasted.
You have look at it,
talked about it,
seen it in your mind.

You now have something definite to write about and in as much detail as you like.

This sidetracks writers block. The 'looking at a blank screen', gone.

Note:

  • Forget about writing for the English teacher.
  • Forget about punctuation, spelling, sentences, paragraphs, and grammar.
  • The objective is to write as much as you can about the object and details in the 5 minutes.
  • Just get the words down.
  • This is the first draft.
  • Just write, not right.
  • Professional writers know the first draft is rough, messy.

MYTH AND MISTAKE: I'LL FAIL.

You will NOT fail. Because it is not a test. IT IS AN EXERCISE. A fun thing to do.

Don't try to be perfect. That will come with practice. Keep it as a fun hobby. Remember you are developing a new skill. Also honing skills and talents you already instinctively possess and are using. You are actually developing a habit.

Put your heart and soul into this, and your character will come shining out.

You can clean and polish this latter for an article or story if you wish.

For future reference, and use. Give it a title, reference code, date, two or three pictures, and/or a video.

Some of these will be worth using for a post or article. You could use this technique for a series of the same objects.

You could take it further and write product reviews. Right there in the shop. The research is done within 15 minutes.

Start a file and folders. Mark each one of these for future reference. Something like - A1 - Title - date, and so on, and then into categories. This will become a writing resource of topics.

Do this once a day. After a while, you may feel like doing this, two, three, four or more times a day.

You will get better. Just as your first day at the gym, you are at your worst. Starting out. But as you continue day by day at the gym every day, you improve.

P.S. It's free, copy it. It's yours if you want.
