"most people live lives of quiet desperation"
Many many years ago, a study was conducted in the United States.
A group of 100 men aged 25 was selected. All 100 were equally keen to become successful. With similar desires and aspirations. All 100 had a confident outlook for the future. They had a zest for life.
Where are you today? Is that how you saw yourself in the future? All those years ago.
Well if so, you don't need this article.
You've gotten this far in life, with what you know and how you do it. Is your hunger satisfied? Those burning desires are now real? And is this where you expected to be in the future?
Or. Maybe there is something eating at you, gnawing away at your insides wanting to be brought to life.
So what happened to this group of 100 men.
At the age of 65, one was rich, four were financially independent, five were still working, and 54 were broke.
Let's put it another way.
How many jobs and opportunities have you missed out on? And how many more are you going to let slide? The trap most people fall into is, you think you need to be totally prepared before you can start something.
And that is the dilemma, not having the confidence to start with. So what is this trap?
Well, the trap looks like this.
Preparation = Procrastination
(a way of delaying fear of failure/success)
And that's where most people stop. But, not you.
This guide will help to free you from the vicious cycle by explaining a concept of learning.
A Deliberate Learning mindset which includes practice. This way of learning leads to competence and confidence.
And courage.
It's not your fault if you are unaware of this way of thinking. And this is why you feel you need to learn more and more and more again. Thinking you will become confident.
But you will not become good or confident until you practice as you are learning.
It's good to have an objective, a reason for wanting to learn. That you can then use or practice. With practice and learning from your mistakes as you go along you become competent. Which leads to confidence in what you are doing and can do.
Deliberate Learning look like this.
Mindset (Intention to Learn & Understand)
>Deliberate Learning
> Adapting Knowledge
> Practice
> Competence
> Confidence.
Reading a book or attending a class is learning. Practicing what you have learned is when you get the experience of the learning. So the real lesson comes with actually applying it through practice. And learning from that, how to go about it better.
So.
Learning is good. Practicing as you learn is better.
Then learn some more, and practicing that. Then brings the competence and confidence into the recipe during the learning. Which gives you the confidence sooner.
And don't forget that well used and sometimes annoying phrase.
'Practice makes perfect'. But don't get caught up in having to be perfect, that defeats the purpose. Just keep getting better.
Who are these Masters?
You just need to look around you. In the media, on television, in business, on the internet. Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Tony Robbins, Mark Zuckerburg, and many more not publicly known. At your work. In your town.
These people have challenged themselves, and so can you. They've had to work hard, fight off emotions and doubts and defeats and failures, and kept going. Persist and persevere. And at times all they had going for them was a dream. And so can you.
My life also sucked. At times I thought, what's the point, enough. But I'm here writing this article.
And What is Deliberate Learning?
A person applying themselves to a particular task to grasp an understanding so as to use this in a practical way deliberately.
“Deliberate learning, when you set aside time and effort specifically to learn, helps you make progress mastering a new skill because you've dedicated time to thinking and reflecting”.
“. . . we can say that Muad'Dib learned rapidly because his first training was in how to learn. And the first lesson of all was the basic trust that he could learn. It is shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult'' – Frank Herbert, Dune
It is following a definite and defined path or plan in an allotted amount of time to become proficient with a piece of knowledge.
"Practice is the act of rehearsing a behavior over and over, or engaging in an activity again and again, for the purpose of improving or mastering it, as in the phrase "practice makes perfect". From Wikipedia.
Have you watched a baby trying to walk? More times than not, at first, they fall. But they are determined to walk. And are not put off or defeated by the number of times they fall.
And after a few steps, Oh, how they celebrate. Confidence! And then take more steps.
This is also developing Muscle Memory. The same as you would by learning to touch type, playing the piano, and any other musical instrument. Also for operating any controls and machine.
But I don't have the time!
Oh... Brother...
Well, guess what! If nothing changes nothing changes. It's that simple.
Well, guess what! If nothing changes nothing changes. It's that simple.
Time is the same for everyone. 168 hours a week. And if you are not content with the way things are, then it's time to look at some priorities.
What do you do with your hours every week? A simple time log will solve that mystery.
If you use a work diary or carry a pen and paper, or you are up with electronic gadgets, great.
As you can see, it doesn't need to be anything fancy. Just get started on being aware of where your time is spent.
Your Undeveloped Mind
It was Earl Nightingale, in his Lead the Field course that said, we each have great wealth. And our wealth consists of four parts:
Our underutilized Mind
Our Talents
Our Abilities
Time
If You Can See It In Your Mind, You Can Hold It In Your Hands.
But there is a great deal more to the comma, in that statement, than just being a comma, between the first imaging and reality of that statement.
That comma in between is the key.
And within that comma is a lot of hard work before anything is in the hands.
That comma has also been a stumbling block, which holds so many back from realizing their dreams.
The statement holds truth and hope. The comma needs to be conquered.
That little comma, in reality, is an abyss between the mind and the hands. And the work is to build a bridge, to close the gap.
A bridge between where you are and where you want to be.
Can .0001% make a Difference?
Where do you start? Here! With what you've got and where you are.
That is all anyone can do, really. With your Mind, Talents, Abilities, and Time.
Now, your first step can be one of several things. It is always a good idea to know what you want, first. So that you can find out what the next step is.
In a way, you are starting to form a mental plan or see it as an image in your mind's eye. Or determining the income you need to...
Everybody... can only start from where they are with what they've got.
So, you are not alone, the only one on this journey.
Think about this.
If there was only a .0001% chance of changing or improving something. Could you improve it by just .0001% to .0002%?
Yes, you can. Well then, you have made a 100% improvement.
And could you improve on that again, by just .0002% to .0004%? That is another 100% improvement. Which now is a 400% improvement on the original.
As with anything, it takes time and effort.
If we go back to the old Greeks, Aristotle mumbled, 'know thyself'.
Even if your resources are way down, low. Start by reading, searching for things of interest to you in magazines, social media groups. You don't need to buy the magazines, just skim through them at the stand.
Ask other people about your interest. You'll never know what they may know if you don't ask.
Be curious.
The key to getting to where you want to be is to learn what you need to learn, to get you there.
You always had choices, hopefully, now you are seeing choices available to you.
It has been estimated that the average person has something like 60,000 thoughts a day on average. That's a lot of brain power not being used constructively.
Reading, learning just for the sake of learning, is intellectual knowledge.
It is surface understanding. And, intellectual knowledge can be dangerous. We can easily sprout that we know something. Yes, we know it. But only on the surface level, on face value only.
The real value comes with understanding. Understanding, wisdom, are gained through experience by trial and error.
Can You reach Your full potential?
Many university studies have come to the same conclusion. That, most people are operating at less than 10%, and even lower, of their mental capacities.
Say YES to the good things, say No to the bad things.
So what can you do about this?
Sad news or Good news.
Your potential is always beyond you. In front, ahead of you.
It's a funny thing, this potential.
You are like a dog forever chasing its tail. It is designed that way, designed so you are always striving. If you are not striving, you are standing still, going nowhere. Stagnant.
So in other words, you can never reach your full potential. Otherwise, then what, you've reached the end of the road.
Your potential is always something more than you are. This may get you to thinking... no, I haven't come to the end of the road.
This also explains why some people get far ahead of the crowd. They are life-long learners.
You are also.
Are you starting to see you are more and can be more?
Think about today, what one new thing have you learned today. Proves the point really.
Are you having trouble finding a passion to pursue? Something that you can turn into a part-time paying hobby.
Think back to when you took your very first breath. Write everything you have learned and learned to do since then.
Now here is the thing with this exercise, don't discount or dismiss anything. And the other part is, it will take you days and weeks to write everything.
Whatever pops into your mind that you have learned, please write it down.
The point is for you to see yourself and how much you have already accomplished. And what a phenomenal capacity you have. And for more.
Doing this exercise will jolt your memory, of all the things you take for granted. And you may find something that sparks a desire to pursue.
The 5 Hour Rule
You can change the direction of your future with just one hour a day, only 5 days a week.
The idea came from Benjamin Franklin. He set aside one hour every weekday, to read, write, track results of his personal growth goals, devise experiments for his ideas, reflection time.
A lot of people keep a journal.
Knowledge is power, so they say. Real power comes from applied knowledge. But when not used, it is powerless, useless!
Everyone interviewed that has made a good success of their lives has said, they are lifelong learners. Deliberately learning something new. And applying it.
Whether to fix a problem or to enhance a good situation.

It was put to us this way by Earl Nightingale.
Spend just one hour a day with a pen and piece of paper. Write at the top, the problem you want to solve or the goal you want to achieve. Then for the next hour write as many ideas that come into your mind. Don't worry about them being far-fetched or ridiculous or wildly remote. Write them all down.
Earl got the idea from Ben Franklin and fashioned it to his own liking.
To tap and plumb the depths of your incredible mind, is like digging into a vein of solid pure gold.
What you are actually doing is letting your imagination explore the realms of your mind. You see, everything comes about through the mind.
A chair did not just appear out of thin air. This could be very dangerous. Because if you were to be sitting on that chair, it could just as well, disappear. And where would that leave you?
I'm hearing you, of course, the chair was made in a factory. Or Fred's backyard workshop. But the idea for the chair was in someone's mind first, then on paper as a drawing. Or in Fred's case. He built the chair from an image in his mind. That is where everything man-made began.
That is where everything for you begins. In your mind!
The Pareto Principle
This principle was named after Vilfredo Pareto. Being a keen gardener, the story goes that Pareto noticed something interesting in his vegetable garden. Particularly the peas. He observed that 80% of the peas came from 20% of the pea pods.
Intrigued by this observation. He began noticing the same proportions elsewhere. Being an economist, he found the same to be true in economics, business, and finance also.
You could also find this principle playing out in your life. If you were to look at what gives you the most pleasure it could be from about 20% of your activities.
By tracking your time and keeping a time log will help you to see this.
This holds true also for learning. Using deliberate learning, you will put the 20% in your favor.
80% Attitude + 20% Aptitude = You can learn anything.
Have you heard of Thomas the Tank Engine?
And his way of pulling the train up the mountain. 'I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...' And soon you'll be coming around the mountain also.

Sales and Selling are not just about products and items. It is also about selling you on an idea. Selling you on the idea 'you can learn if you want to, and you are not stuck where you are'.
Is there something you can add to this post. Your comments are most welcome.
